Alan Harrison    6'3" 240 Lb.   WR  James Madison University 2003

Glynn Harrison rips an 82 yarder from scimmage to bury Ga.-Tech on his way to another bowl game in the mid '70's.

Glynn Harrison rips Auburn Defense as he did to most defenses. Glynn is now better known now as Alan Harrison's father. How soon they forget. Glynn was an All-SEC Running-back, Captain of the team, and a scholastic All-American

Please allow me to brag on my nephew. Alan Harrison has been the perfect, All-American, biscuit eatin’, cornbread lovin’ mega-jock to my Brother Glynn and his wife Cissy. His story is quite amazing and it goes like this. Alan is one of the most gifted athletes I’ve ever seen, and probably could have gone to College on any of four sports he excelled in. He ended up signing in the most un-likely sport of all, for him, Football. A tremendous Baseball and Basketball player at Oconee High School in Georgia, not to mention Golf, Alan was asked to come out for football in the spring of his senior year because the QB was moving and that left only a sophomore to lead the Warriors. Naturally he and his parents were reluctant in that they had been talking to colleges on the basketball front, and didn’t want to risk injury. Coach Herrin (now at Camden Co. HS) talked him into it, and Alan was asked to attend a “Wing-T” Clinic to learn a bit about the QB position. Remember, He had never set  foot on a football field before.  He agreed to go and there he was. A few days into the clinic, Alan was offered a full ride to come play QB for a great football college in the Northeast. Alan failed to mention that he had never taken a live snap or even practiced one day of football. None the less, the coach wanted him and kept in touch, and the offer open all the way till signing day. Think that is the happy ending? Not - So - Fast. Alan returned to his high school eager to learn and play football, but before seasons practices began, the Original QB tells the coach he is returning and didn’t have to move after all. Alan had to yield to the experienced QB and was moved to wide receiver. He had a tremendous year in that, Oconee County went undefeated, Won the State Title, and Alan was offered a full ride to James Madison University where he has led the team in receiving since his first day there. This is not the school that offered him the scholarship at camp. There is more... The twist of fate...The Head Coach at JMU that signed Alan, is the father of the QB that got this whole ball rolling, Clayton Mathews. Both now are playing together again at JMU after that monumental season in high school. Alan is a 6’3” 240lb wide receiver that can run, and is hopeful for a shot at the pros, which you  figure, would only be right  in a story like this, don't you think?

Jackson Harrison seems to be going to work for Zippy Duvall on the farm, and then takes time to ride the land with Zellie Duvall on Buddy.

Coach Harrison played at Columbia High School and graduated in '70.  "Hey... I played when they had face masks". I even caught a 45 yd. TD pass from the QB position. Coach Knight was a clever cookie, and playing for this great coach just made my being voted MVP in 1970, the highlight of my football playing days. Coach Knight would have loved to get his hands on my double wing offense and if I could ever get him out of his retirement, who knows! For the record, Coach Phil Knight has been my mentor from the day I met him at Columbia High. He taught me so much about winning, preparation, and what it takes to put a contender on the field, and I hope I can emulate and pass on some of his brilliance and football wisdom.
